COMPASSION SUNDAY!

On June, 6th we hosted our annual Compassion Sunday. We showed a Compassion video and  spoke about children living in poverty around the world… and what we as a church family can do to intervene in their lives. Praise the Lord! We had 17 children sponsored that day. This means that 17 more children will have the opportunity to learn about Jesus, receive health services, educational assistance, and supplemental food.

Children in Poverty- It’s a tragic fact that about 1/3 of the world’s children live in extreme poverty today. Pause for a moment and picture what that means for one child. They are hungry most of the time, they suffer from poor health, they receive little or no education. They are neglected, abused, and are often exposed to violence. Many come to believe that their lives have no value, no hope, and no future. Worst of all, many of these children have never heard that God loves them.

The good news is that although we cannot change the whole world, we can change the world for at least some of these children. Through Compassion International each of us has the opportunity to come alongside one particular child in need and help to change the course of that child’s entire future.

Jesus tells us “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for Me.” Matthew 25:40

Compassion Sponsorship means that you choose one specific boy or girl and begin a personal ministry to that child. You can exchange letters and prayers. The child you help will cherish the thought that you actually care for them, value them and want them to succeed. Through the Compassion program each child is helped through a l0cal church. I have visited a number of these Compassion Projects and have always been impressed at how involved the Compassion Staff are with each child. They personally  interact with each child, are concerned for their health, welfare and know the children and their families.  I believe Compassion is doing a great work and I am excited to be a part of that.

05-30-2010 Thank you all for your prayers, Prov 15.29. I have a group of 10, and yesterday an 11 year old boy received the Lord as his LORD and Savior. Glory to GOD our Heavenly Father truth our LORD Jesus Christ be the Glory.  I found that  Marinilla, Antioquia, Colombia,  is a town of 50,000.00 people and no gospel church in town, there are 4 Catholic churches in town and one Jehovah witness church.  Please pray for this town, the majority is Catholic. yet the town  full of  alcohol.  This town needs the Gospel.  Help me to pray for it that many people will came to know Christ. Gloria a Dios Padre en nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea la Gloria.  Ayer se reunieron como mas 10 personas y un niño de 11 años recibió al Señor como su  salvador y Señor. God has been pouring out His blessings upon Calvary Chapel Caneille, and our hearts are filled with gratitude for all He has done and continues to do.  Thank you for being a significant part by your continued support and prayers. Read on for how great our God is.  Surely His thoughts are always towards His people.
RADIO CALVARY OF HAITI
Welcome to RCDH 99.5 Calvary Radio!  A long awaited dream birthed into reality on April 15, 2010.  Calvary Chapel Caneille now has its own radio station!  The word is being proclaimed, and our Lord adorned and lifted up in praise.  It was a glorious moment when the air waves went out on the hill for the first words to be spoken.  The signal reaches near Port au Prince and to the Dominican Republic .  Calvary Radio is unique in that it is 100% Christian, playing only Christian songs and teachings of the Word. Reports from everywhere abound with a good word, stating that the radio is a “friend” and “like being in church” because it has worship, prayer, and teaching of the word.  Even non-believers call in to say how they love the station! Pastor Bastia is touched by the hunger to learn the Bible.  In Haiti , the norm is to have a lot of preaching, but not much teaching. One radio listener recently called in to request a study on the tribulation. 100 solar powered radios have been donated to be given away.  Radios have been distributed, – everyone wants a radio, and 99.5 Calvary Radio is heard everywhere you go.  Children are learning new songs from the radio and are heard singing praise songs.
For now, there are morning and evening hours of operation. There will be developments of more programs as time goes on. Each day at noon is a time of prayer. There are some special weekend programs, including a Bible Quiz program where people call in and answer questions about the Bible.  
The radio is run once a day on charged batteries, and once a day on generator power which then recharges the batteries. Please pray for some donated batteries and solar panels which will run the radio station to arrive soon which will enable the radio to run 24/7.  There is also a need for a small air conditioner to keep the equipment from being damaged due to high temperatures inside the radio station.  The web site for the radio is: www.rcdh995.org  (Radio Calvary of Haiti – 99.5)
CALVARY CHAPEL CANEILLE
People are growing in their knowledge and love of the Word.  Bastia is going through the Book of Job during the mid week study.  It is very appropriate and people are gleaning much from it.   On Sunday mornings, Bastia is teaching through the Book of 2Corinthians.
Some “transponders” were recently donated. These are durable machines with the New Testament on them in Creole.  They are solar and/or hand crank run, not requiring any batteries.  They were given to the illiterate after Sunday morning service.  The curiosity and excitement was uncontainable as people were taught how to use them and heard the word of God.  After church, the word of God was heard everywhere from every direction.  People were listening to the word at Camp Jerusalem , under the mango tree, and on the road home.  Now the illiterate too could hear and share the gospel – they were so excited.  It was a sweet music and God was surely smiling.
There was a glorious baptism at the river last month. Three of those baptized were from Camp Jerusalem .  The parents of one young girl who was baptized are deeply involved in voodoo. This girl’s father is a witch doctor. Another woman named Nadine had wanted to be baptized for a long time.  Due to some erroneous teaching, she felt that there was only a certain time of year she could be baptized at a certain church feast.  Liberated by the truth of Gods’ word, she immediately wanted to be baptized.  When coming out of the water she raised her hands and exclaimed “Alleluia”! The angels have also been rejoicing over additional souls being saved.  Last Sunday, Pastor Lane taught from 2 Corinthians 5 of Christians being ambassadors for Christ.  With a presentation of the gospel and an invitation to accept Christ and to be an ambassador for Jesus, six accepted Christ, including three children around the age of 10.
Next month, a group will be coming to assist in laying block for the church.  There is a great need for a church building as the church is growing.  It will also open up many additional avenues for ministry.  Once the block is laid, the roof will be the next part to be done.  Please pray for the walls and then the roof to be erected quickly.
CAMP JERUSALEM
There are now 63 residents in the camp.  Family members have come to search for some and taken them with them.  Others have launched out in faith to start a small business of selling a few things to begin their life anew.  There is also an additional member of the camp as one of the residents had a healthy baby boy.
One group worked diligently and tirelessly to provide an area for the residents to take showers. Prior to this, there was an area made from blue tarps and rebar as a small shelter to take a shower.  Pastor Brian shared on Sunday morning, and eight people accepted Christ.
Two outdoor, temporarily toilets have been built also.  A fence around the camp property has been made.   Security is important due to our remote location.  Tents do not have doors which lock, and camp residents express a sense of insecurity related to this. A couple months ago, two thieves entered the camp at 1 AM in the morning.  One was quickly apprehended by our security staff on site.  The fence is important for camp security and the camp residents are grateful for it. .
A recent addition to the camp has been the erection of a large circus tent.  This is providing some much needed shade and protection from the elements.
CALVARY CLINIC CANEILLE
A physician and his wife who is a nurse have clinic hours every Saturday from 9 AM – 4 PM.  Medical Care is free for residents at Camp Jerusalem including medications, blood tests, and x-rays.  Patients go to Hinche for x-rays and blood work. The clinic is also open to the community and provides a much needed service. One of the residents recently had thyroid surgery and is recovering well.
The clinic is presently set up in the church.  Tarps are hung in the first third of the church to create a clinic area. A bed is moved in, desks and chairs are set up for the doctor, nurse, and patient for consultation.  Medications are brought out in cardboard boxes, categorized in plastic bags by category.  The vision is to someday have a medical clinic building with a fuller range of services.
PRAISE THE LORD!
God is meeting so many needs.  Please thank and praise the Lord with us for the following provisions:
Toyota Truck – It is so wonderful to have a dependable vehicle given all the travel that is done in the ministry.
Showers and toilets for Camp Jerusalem ; Security Fence completed and water cistern are in progress.
Kitchen for camp and school lunch – in progress and just in time for the rainy season
School Lunch – the faces of the children reflect joy and hope as they enjoy a hot meal daily. The energy level on
   the playground has escalated dramatically!
Cement Mixer – has been ordered and will be coming soon.
Thank you to each individual and  team member who have come to do construction, office work, install radio equipment, erect tents, teach the word, play with the children, fix computer problems,  and encourage and pray with us.   Thank you for using your gifts and resources to make building plans, provide school lunch, and fresh water. Mexico Trip May 21st-23rd

We were so blessed to be able to come alongside Bea and Olen Ragan who have been missionaries in mexico for nearly 30 years. They have been busy every day since the earthquake trying to help the people who lost their homes. The government has provided army tents which house 3 families each. Neither words nor pictures alone cannot describe the effects from the earthquake. We saw some of the cracks and the 6+ inches of soft sand that settled after the water receded. It was difficult to even open the door at the church because of the sand that had come up from the cracks and the pressure from the shifted foundation. The floor tiles and foundation were cracked, the foundation exposed, the walls and roofs were cracked. Many of the houses had walls that fell down, some houses were completely demolished.  But life seems to go on in this sleepy part of Mexico. The church is strong, with many people open to the Gospel message.

A Big THANK YOU! To all who donated food, water, clothes, supplies and money for this outreach. We know that the Lord was pleased with this effort. We helped to ease the burden these people face every day.

We visited the churches in Johnson (Indivisio) and the church in Coahuila at Kilometer 57.  We shared with the children that Jesus is with them even when they are afraid. Every child could tell the story of what happened to them during the earthquake. We shared the message of hope and that God is with them, loves them and is their protector.

We held an outreach at the camp and handed out nearly 300 hotdogs plus watermelon, chips and cookies.  The children smashed two pinatas full of candy and played with new soccer balls, hula hoops and other toys. We brought 5 pickup trucks loaded with supplies our church provided which will be divided up and distributed to the families of Johnson. We worked hard but got our reward by going out for tacos afterward. It was fun, yet fruitful for the Kingdom of God.

MEXICO EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE MISSIONS TRIP

We have the opportunity to join Bea and Olen Ragan in Mexicali to reach out to the community of Johnson which has was devastated by the earthquake last month. The quake crumbled the buildings and the earth cracked open, which brought hot water into the village and flooded their crumbled homes. The government has determined they cannot return to their homes and will reloate the entire village.  Meanwhile the people are servivig with whatever means they can, no electricity and very limited water. The are provided water to drink but not enough to bathe or for laundry. The temperatures are rising and the people need shelter from the sun in addition to basic camping supplies. Our team will leave at 5pm on Friday, May 21st and return on Sunday the 23rd. We will be serving with any work projects, handing out food and supplies, and an evangelistic outreach. A sign up sheet is available at the Information Window. Cost to go is $75.00 which will cover transportation. You will also need money for fast food and tacos. A team meeting will be held on Sunday the 16th after the 11am service in the Sanctuary. Money and paperwork can be turned in at that time. SPRING OUTREACH TO MEXICO

On Friday the 16th of April we took a wonderful team of 21 people in 5 trucks and 1 car loaded with donations to Maneadero, Mexico. We had collected lots of clothes, shoes, and some toys for the people in the village outside the orphanage of Agua Viva and the labor camp we had previously visited up the hill. Unfortunately one of our trucks was held up at the border for nearly 5 hours. It was stressful because the authorities in Mexico wanted to conficaste all the donations plus issue a fine. But God had other plans and turned it around for His glory! Eventually those in the truck actually got to pray with the border guard who returned half of the confiscated items and sent them back across the border into the USA with no fine. They eventually crossed at another border crossing and arrived early the next morning. We did an outreach with the children in the area, fed them lunch and shared the Gospel message with them. We had a lot of fun playing games, making crafts, frosting cupcakes and face painting with the children. We had a clothing outreach with their parents who took home huge bags filled with clothes. It was a blessing for us and them. We got to pray with many including one man named “Tito” who has serious health issues. We were blessed that he was able to walk to the orphanage and be a part of the day’s activities. Normally, we go to his house to bring him food and clothes. We have been building a friendship with Tito for several years and he praises God who supplies all his needs.

We visited the labor camp up the hill and continue to be overwhelmed with the living conditions. But even more important than the physical needs is their spiritual need. Pastor Joel shared the Gospel message while a young girl from the local village interpreted. It was a big stretch for her, but we assured her that she was helping to further God’s kingdom and He would bless her for it. One of the men in the labor camp at our last visit had enthusiastically responded to our message and was given a Bible. He speaks a bit of English, Spanish and Mixteco. He helped to interpret by reading the Scriptures and expounded from his heart about John 3:16. We were moved to tears as he passionately shared about the love of God. We eagerly desire to disciple this young man with such a desire for God’s Word. The Bible shows signs of useage in just a few months since our last visit, and he was able to immediately locate the scriptures. He truly has a heart for God’s Word. Praise the Lord, He is so faithful. We pray The Lord will raise up this young man to become a spiritual leader for this labor camp.

APRIL MEXICO MISSIONS TRIP

We have been invited back to Maneadero, Mexico to minister to the children and community outside of Agua Viva Daycare. We will be leaving on Friday the 16th of April around 5pm and returning Sunday evening. The winter storms have caused considerable damage to Agua Viva and many of the “makeshift” homes in the village. We will be helping with repairs as well as an outreach to the children in the community. Mark your calendar and make plans to join us. One Family Gives Back to the Philippines

The Munoz Family has begun a “Family Ministry” to the church and elementary school where they once attended, several years ago in Luzon, Philippines. A family of 9 children, now living in the United States decided that when one sister began helping the little Baptist Church where Pastor J.R teaches the Bible, they all began to get involved and help meet the needs any way they can and tell them with Jesus, we have hope. Their cousins and nephew who still live there are in charge of food distribution.

We are so blessed to be here in the U.S. We know that without HIM we wouldn’t all be here. We are just sharing the blessing that Jesus provided to our family. We know without Him we would not all be here and we are so thankful.

MISSIONS TRIP TO BACOLOD, PHILIPPINES

Our Philippines Missions Team will be departing for Bacolod, Philippines on July 26 and returning on August 16th.  We are joining Calvary Chapel Desert Hot Springs for a missions trip to Calvary Chapel Bacolod and the Rosmarino’s Children’s Home. Thhe team will be ministering to the 150+ children there through a week long Vacation Bible School, skits, a women’s conference, men’s ministry, cooking, cleaning and construction projects. News From Maneadero, Mexico

Dear Friends & Family:

     I was just putting together a year end and New Year letter to everyone when our major storm hit.   And from the number of e-mails received we know you are all concerned about us so we’ll put off the newsletter for a bit to report on happenings of the last week.    We are all well and very blessed to have been in a place to be used by the Lord to care for His people.   No one suffered injuries or illness, thankfully.   Sorry this is long but a lot happened in one week !!

     Last Monday began as a typical Monday when Jon makes his weekly trek to the States.  Of course you all know that if anything is going to malfunction, or a major storm is going to hit,  that is the day it ALWAYS happens!!  He was hurrying though because we knew it was going to rain and he wanted to be home before the storm got too bad.  Didn’t happen.  Before he got home the wind picked up, rain began coming down and we had an electric outage for a few minutes & then a power surge so strong that it did major damage to the electricity in the old section of the main house.  It made mini explosions all over the living room!  Those of you that know me know that I am usually not too afraid of anything, but explosions with smoke coming from the computer & other electronics just about did me in!  I finally got the nerve to run into the smoke to unplug the surge protector that everything was plugged into.   I was having the walls of the house checked every few minutes after that for hours to make sure they weren’t hot.   When Jon got home he found that some wires had melted together in the main box leading to that section and that we need major work done to repair it.   Consequently, we only have electricity in the half of the new kitchen and the new bedrooms & bathrooms.  All of the old section (2 wings) is out.   The explosions (ok, loud pops) were from Jon’s computer, the television, VCR, DVD player, and Direct TV box.  Of course poor Gloria thinks the end of the world has happened without TV!

     Then the storm picked up in intensity and the winds came and more rain.  The metal roof (which was just put on in December) blew completely off the shop.  Then the bottom half blew off.  Jon was able to find the pieces & put it back during a lull but it will need more repair later.  We lost shingles on some of the buildings, rolled roofing on others, and the big cross fell down, opening up the space where it had been sitting to cause a leak.  We lost one of our two remaining trees from the last storm  and 2 more main branches in the big tree in the courtyard.  We will probably have to cut the whole tree down now sadly.  The only remaining tree is by the pumphouse and it lost all it’s leaves above the level of the pumphouse roof.  However, no water came in the house due to the new wall generously provided by Karl and all the laborers on that project!! 

     Probably the worst night of the storm was Wednesday night and Thursday.  During this time some of the men from the community next door came over to tell us that some of the families had lost their houses and others had a lot of water & mud in their houses and all their belongings were wet.  They expressed fear for the safety of their children as well because the metal roofing was coming loose from the church building and flying through the air.  These families are the poorest as their houses were mostly made of tarp & wood scraps.  We invited them to come and shelter with us for as long as they needed.  Five families came, a total of 48 people.  We did not have power so it was a challenge but Praise God as He had prepared us and was with us throughout the three days they were with us.   We had put out barrels to catch rainwater at the very beginning of the storm in anticipation of losing power and knowing that the water truck would not be able to come out here for many days.  So we used that to wash dishes and flush toilets.  We had propane and plenty of food thanks to the generosity of those of you that filled our freezers in December.  A couple of the ladies made tortillas and some of the best and hottest chili I have ever eaten on one of the days.  When the sun came out the men of the families thanked us profusely and they all went back to their land or houses and began repairs.  Jon gave out all the tarps we had and supplied some nails but we didn’t have any roofing material.  The women and children are still coming for food as a week without work left all of the families in dire need.  We have fed 52 each day since they went home.

     After being marooned for a couple of days because the Mississippi River came to our area & overflowed it’s banks, there is now one road passable so we are finally able to get in and out.  School resumed today and we are enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.  We expect more rain tomorrow evening and again on Thursday but it sould be a much milder storm.  We read a report that said we received 7.75 inches of rain last week and at times the wind was blowing over 50 mph!   As of today the Highway going south of us is still closed all the way to Cabo San Lucas as several bridges are out and there are washouts on the roadways.  The government has declared a state of emergency and they are working on getting it open as soon as possible.  Many small communities are cut off from the rest of Baja. 

    We pray that all of you have weathered the storms in your areas without major problems.  Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.  The Lord kept us safe (if not sane all the time).
